Her door was never locked, and there was always room at her table.
Harbans came to Southall from Jalandhar in 1968, newly married and twenty-two, and never really left. She worked at the same bakery on the high street for thirty-one years, and she is remembered for feeding people: family, neighbours, and anyone her sons brought home without warning.

Antam Sanskar

  • The langar sewadarstoday

The rota she kept for twenty years still has her handwriting on it. We will look after it.

  • Jaswinder Sandhutoday

Massi ji taught me to make roti when I was nine and told me it was terrible when I was thirty. I would give anything to hear it once more.

  • Parminder Gilltoday

She fed half this street for thirty years and never once made it feel like a favour. Our love to the whole family.
