God.co.uk is a trading name of Global Online Directory Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 03053178), with its registered office at 11 Goldlay Avenue, Chelmsford, Essex CM2 0TL. Information we collect

• Questions you ask. The questions you submit are stored and processed to generate and publish answers. Please do not include personal or sensitive information in your questions, as approved questions and answers may be published publicly.
• Account information, such as your email address, used to sign you in by email link or Google sign-in, and a display name if you choose to set one.
• Memorial content. If you create a memorial, we store the details you choose to publish about the person being remembered (such as their name, dates and life story) and any photos you upload, plus the name and email address of the guardian you name to look after the memorial in future.
• Tributes and messages you or others post on a memorial, together with the display name shown alongside them.
• Usage and device data collected automatically via cookies and analytics, such as pages visited, approximate location, browser and device type.
• Payment information. When you make a purchase, such as lighting a candle or keeping a memorial online after its free trial, payment is handled by our payment provider (Stripe); we do not store full card details.

How we use your information

• To provide and improve the service, including generating answers.
• To understand how the site is used (analytics) and improve it.
• To operate accounts, process payments and respond to enquiries.
• To keep the service secure and comply with our legal obligations.

Cookies and analytics

We use strictly necessary cookies to run the site, analytics cookies (Google Analytics) to understand usage, and, where enabled, advertising cookies (Google AdSense) to help support the site. Non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising) are only set after you consent via our cookie banner, and you can decline or change your choice at any time without affecting core functionality. Affiliate links

Some links on the site, such as book recommendations, are Amazon Associates affiliate links. If you click through and make a purchase on Amazon, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Amazon may set cookies and process data about your visit in accordance with its own privacy policy once you leave our site.

AI-generated answers

Answers are generated using a third-party AI provider (Anthropic). The text of your question is sent to that provider to produce an answer. Generated answers may be reviewed by us and published on the site.

Who we share data with

We share data only with service providers who help us run the site, acting on our instructions: our hosting and database provider (Supabase), our hosting/deployment platform (Vercel), our AI provider (Anthropic), our email provider (Resend), Google (for analytics, advertising via Google AdSense, and Google sign-in), our payment provider (Stripe), and Amazon (via our Associates affiliate links). We do not sell your personal data.

International transfers

Some of our providers are based outside the UK (including the United States). Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the providers’ standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep data

We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described above or as required by law. Published questions and answers may remain available indefinitely. A memorial is free to create and share; if it is not kept via the one-time payment before its free trial ends, it is hidden from public view but not deleted, and can be restored at any time.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these, email privacy@god.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).

Children

This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
